The Grizzled Skipper is a nationally important butterfly found at a number of sites in Rushcliffe. Join a working party to help ensure the Skipper’s continued, and hopefully expanded, presence. The work includes clearance work to maintain open habitat and help create corridors to link existing open habitats, and creation of bare earth patches to increase the availability of suitable egg-laying habitat. Work parties are held on the fourth Saturday of the month unless otherwise notified. Meet 10 am until 1 pm at the latest. Gloves, protective glasses and tools are provided. New volunteers will have a short induction and training session. Volunteers are recommended to notify us of their intention to join by sending an email to patsyaandrews@googlemail.com who will put them on our mailing list so any changes can be notified directly to them.

A walk with Gordon Dyne taking in Gotham Sandbanks and Woods then over onto the West Leake Hills and back down to Gotham (circa 4 miles).

We meet at the top of Peveril Drive at approximately 09:45, so we can get the tools up the hill, to start work for 10:00. Our normal work parties run till about lunch-time , or occasionally into the afternoon if we have a lot to do. However if you can only spare a couple of hours that’s fine with us. Jobs vary from planting hedging, tidying up litter and felling fast growing sycamores. Gloves and other equipment are provided. Please contact sharphillwood@yahoo.co.uk if you intend to participate.
